Forgiveness In Perspective

We hear the following phrase a lot: Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free – John 8:32. But often we hear it in the wrong context. Or it’s delivered with a hidden agenda and from an impure heart. Forgiveness requires that we face the truth: the truth of Christ’s forgiveness; the truth of our own need for forgiveness; the truth that if we are ever to be spiritually and eternally free we must receive Christ’s forgiveness;the truth that to be psychologically and relationally free, we must forgive those who have hurt us. Sometimes it is hard to let go. In fact, when we have been deeply hurt, it may not be possible to forgive … on our own, that is. But it is important to remember that we don’t have to do it alone. Through the powerful blood of Christ, God has forgiven us. When we truly and humbly accept that truth, we have the power to forgive anyone else for any transgression against us. That’s real freedom! - LH // 'For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.' Romans 3:23-24
